BRUCE BERLET
Saturday, Providence, 7:05 p.m.; Sunday, at Providence, 4:05 p.m.: The Wolf
Pack (47-21-3-3) have won four in a row and are on a 6-0-1-1 streak as they
finish the season series against the only team they've played more than
twice and don't have a winning record (4-4 with two shootout victories). The
Bruins (38-26-3-7) are the AHL's hottest team, a season-high, six-game
winning streak enabling them to open a seven-point lead over Worcester for
the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. LW Andy Hilbert (37 goals,
41 assists), C Brad Boyes (32, 41) and RW Keith Aucoin (20, 42) are the
Bruins' top scorers. Milan Jurcina (6, 15) and defensemen Brent Thompson and
Jayme Filipowicz are leaders on the blue line. G Hannu Toivonen (27-15-3,
1.97 goals-against average, seven shutouts) has returned to top form after
knee surgery Feb. 22, winning his last six starts. The 2005 Calder Cup Tour
reaches the Civic Center Saturday with a special display and the trophy.
Wednesday, Manchester, 7:05 p.m.: The Pack and Monarchs (47-19-4-4) have
been first or second in the Atlantic Division all season. Manchester holds a
two-point lead with six games to go, but the Pack have a 4-2-0-1 record
against them. C Mike Cammalleri is first in the league in goals (43) and
second in points (102). Other threats are LW Dustin Brown (28, 41) and RWs
Tom Kotsopoulos (22, 42) and Brad Smyth (21, 31). Denis Grebeshkov (4, 40)
and Tim Gleason (10, 14) head a strong defense in front of two of the
league's best goalies, Mathieu Garon (29-13-4, 2.10, eight shutouts) and
Adam Hauser (18-10-0, 1.98, five shutouts). |
